Recycled vs quality rattan
Often, cheaper rattan sets are made using recycled plastic, an exercise that cuts costs down massively, but PVC and PU synthetic rattan won’t stand the test of time and will start to break down and crack. As a general rule, if a garden furniture set only comes with a 1 year warranty, avoid it.
PE synthetic rattan is the best quality rattan, it’s fully weatherproof so it can be left outside all year round. Although it’s a more expensive option, it won’t crack or go brittle over time. Synthetic rattan comes in different weaves. Flat and half-round weave can be used for the main panels on a piece of furniture as it's not very comfortable to sit on a full round weave. However, a full round weave on the edge of tales and chairs is highly recommended to give a more premium feel and will increase the longevity of the product.
